More Pumpkins

Life was pretty crazy in October, so Grandma Hughes didn't get around to taking us to the pumpkin patch like she usually does until late in the month.  By the time we went, there were no longer any pumpkins in the patch, so we went to the stand to get the kid's pumpkins.  They each picked out their favorite.

Lindey kept calling this her banana.  Not sure why, but we had to bring this gourd home for her. :)
Eli thought he had found his favorite pumpkin...
but changed his mind last minute and went with this taller one.

Thanks, Grandma Hughes! Now we have pumpkins we can carve, and others to leave on the porch for the rest of the Fall holidays. October 28, 2013

Pumpkin Patch

My friend, Kristen, brought me some pumpkins and gourds for my porch.  There were some cool ones and my mom (who had come to stay a week with me after my surgery) asked her where she got them.  My friend, Heather, also called and asked where I had gotten my cool pumpkins on my porch.  I told her Kristen brought them over. Heather called Kristen to find out, and the next thing I know, Kristen is calling me and asking if we wanted to go out to the Banasky pumpkin patch to get pumpkins and gourds with their family and Heather's family for family home evening. I told her yes--my mom was so excited! Lol  Off we went!
Ian headed off in search of the perfect pumpkin.
Kristen and Scott Robertson and their son, Kollin  (in the purple) on the hunt for some fun pumpkins with my boys.
My mom and I before venturing into the patch to find treasures of our own.
Morgan with a white pumpkin.  I've seen some fun things done on Pinterest with white pumpkins--too bad I wasn't feeling better! :)
Eli in the pumpkin patch.  He was so fun to watch.  He was definitely searching for his perfect pumpkin.
Grandma and Lindey searching for pumpkins.
Zander was feeling pretty independent and was able to help cut pumpkins for others with a pair of tree trimmers.
A fun gourd that found a new home on our front porch.
Eli finally found his perfect pumpkin.  He was so excited!
Zander with another cool gourd.  He slung it over his shoulder and carried it to the car.
Brother Robertson grabbed a melon out of the field and cracked it open for the kids to have a snack.  It was sure tasty!

Here is our haul of pumpkins and gourds in the back of the trooper.  Holy cow! I will say that some of these are Grandma's and will be going home to Vernal with her.
Our porch sure looked festive this year!  If I had been feeling better I probably would have tried to organize them in some fashion, but as it was, the kids did the decorating. :)  They moved them around regularly and we had to remind them a few times to keep a walk-way up the steps to the front door!
Micah with his pumpkin.
These were the ones that Grandma Millett picked out to take home.  She said that Grandpa was going to kill her when he came to pick her up!  There were just so many cool ones she couldn't leave any of them in the patch!  Her porch turned out cool--she has an old wheelbarrow that she filled and had a sign made out of old wood that said "give thanks".  (She sent me a picture on my phone--if I knew how to get it onto here I would have uploaded it!)
Visiting after unloading the loot.  Thanks so much Kristin for taking us pumpkin picking in the patch!  My mom had never done that before and we had a great time! A perfect activity for family home evening. :) October 7th, 2013

A Trip to the Pumpkin Patch

On October 8th for Family Home Evening, John's parents took us for our annual pumpkin patch run.  Each year the kids get to pick out their own pumpkin.  They always love hunting for the perfect one.
Lindey was fun to watch and seemed to know just which pumpkin she wanted.  When we asked her if that was the one she wanted, she said, "Yep!"
Grandpa always follows the kids all over the patch so he can cut them off the vine.
Grandpa's only rule is that you have to carry it back to the truck yourself. :)  Ian had no problem hefting his!
Morgan had a slightly more difficult time, but managed. :) (love that smile!)
Zander picked one that was almost too big for him to carry.  I think Ian helped him part way to the truck--thanks, bro!
Micah liked this flatter shorter pumpkin.  It fits him. :)
Ian helped Eli get his pumpkin back to the truck as well.  Eli was pretty picky this year.  He was the last one to choose his pumpkin--he just couldn't make up his mind!
Lindey's pumpkin is about as big as she is!  She is so cute!
The kids and their pumpkins in the truck.  (They thought it was pretty cool that Grandpa let them ride in the back.)
Eli was able to ride home in the back of the truck with the big boys too.  He was so excited!
We made it home with the pumpkins, and the kids got them situated on the front steps.  With all of Zander's little pumpkins (he grew his plant from a seed they planted last year in first grade--his 1 plant produced 27 pumpkins!) our porch looks quite festive! :)  Thanks Grandma and Grandpa!

Down in the Pumpkin Patch

Once again this year, John's parents took us to the pumpkin patch.  The kids love picking out a pumpkin of their very own.  The only rule is you have to pack your pumpkin back to the car.  Thanks for taking us Grandma and Grandpa!

Happy fall!

Picking Pumpkins

After Bountiful Baskets this morning, John's parents took us to the pumpkin patch to get the kids a pumpkin.  We always love doing this every year.
When the kids found the pumpkin they wanted, they sat on them to claim them as their own until Grandpa made it to them to cut it from the vine.

The pumpkins were really big this year!  The kids could barely lift them!

Zander tried to lift his pumpkin, but just couldn't quite do it.  He decided to wait by it until Dad could come carry it back to the car.

John and I decided to get pumpkins as well.  I picked smaller ones partly to balance out all the huge ones the kids picked, and also so I would have some cute ones to leave as decorations through November. :)  John found the biggest one, I think.  When he lifted it up, there was this hole underneath it.
Pretty quick there were about 6 mice that darted out of the hole.  He had found a mouse house!

After pumpkin picking, we ate lunch and then headed out back to harvest out garden.  We picked tomatoes, bell peppers, dill and carrots.  John found this funny little thing.  Interesting, huh?
