Orangeville

On one of our visits to Orangeville, we stopped at the park and let the kids play. I think they will like living here.

The park has skate ramps.  The kids were using them as slides.  We will have to come back with their scooters and skateboards and let them ride them someday.

Pioneer Day

Happy Pioneer Day!  Our ward always hosts a barbecue at the park.  Anyone in the community is welcome to attend.  There is always good food and company.

This year the primary had several games for the kids to play.  They set up a fishing pond.

They also asked the fire department to bring the hoses down and set up a slip and slide.  It was the highlight of the day!  That is a lot of water!

John brought his sling shot so the kids could launch water balloons.

After a bit, the kids launching the balloons wanted to see if they could hit the slip and sliders across the field.  They came close a few times!

Those manning the hose tried to get us, but we were too far away.  (They eventually got in the firetruck and drove it around to us to try and get us wet that way.  It was so funny!)

The kids loved launching the balloons!  Even Lindey was able to give it a try.

Everyone had a great time celebrating the 24th of July--Pioneer Day!

A walk to the park

We went on a walk to the park.  The kids enjoyed getting out their energy, and I got some cute pictures of the kids playing. :)  Win, win!  April 7th, 2013.

Scout Camp Trial Run

Grandma and Grandpa Hughes brought Ian a two-man tent that he is going to take to scout camp next week (Eeek!  Is he that old?)  Ian is very excited to be going to scout camp. He's a little young still, but because he turns 12 in August they are letting him go. He's so excited! Of course, he had to practice getting the tent set up so he would be able to do it himself next week.  He talked Zander into sleeping in it with him tonight. :)  The family went outside to watch.  Lindey just loves being outside whenever possible. :) 

Luckily we had a tarp in the shed that was the perfect size to go under the tent.  John instructed Ian on centering the tent on the tarp and the need for a tarp in the first place.

 Next on the instruction was the tent poles and threading them into the slots.

 Putting it up, putting in the ground stakes, and lastly the rain flap.

 Ian had lots of support from Eli...

 and Lindey.... they were both real encouraging. :)

 All finished!  Great job buddy!

 After the tent was set up, we went for a walk to drop Ian off at the church.  He went to Young Men's tonight because they were discussing details of scout camp.  Since the park was across the street from the church, we let the other kids play for a few minutes before we walked home.  Micah loves to climb up the slides.

 Morgan was a good sport and took Lindey down the slides a few times.

What a fun evening! :)  Hope the boys enjoy sleeping outside in the tent!

President's Day

We spent our President's day (Feb. 20th) out and about.  We took a picnic lunch and walked to the City park to let the kids run and get out some energy.  It was a bit chilly because the wind was blowing, but we had a lot of fun.   Lindey and I swung on the swings.  I don't think she has ever done this.  She was giggling and enjoyed it very much!

 John played tag with the kids.  That was fun to watch.

 Eli is a brave little boy.  He went down every slide possible with reckless abandon and loved every second of it.

 I showed Micah how to spider swing.  He is a scaredy cat, but once I got him to release his death grip on my neck, I think he enjoyed himself.  He had to realize that I wasn't going to let him fall.  He took several pictures of us, which helped him relax a little. :)

 Eli loved being pushed on the swings.  He kept telling me to go higher.  No fear!

 After the park, we walked up to John's parents house.  We spent the afternoon there, and John's Aunt Sally and Uncle Jim stopped by.  We had an enjoyable visit with them.  After they left we went on a drive.  Ian wanted to show us the waterwheel that he and Mr. Z explored a few weeks ago.  We couldn't get into where they went, but drove down a wash and got close enough to snap a few pictures.  It was pretty muddy, so we didn't let the kids do much exploring.

 After we made it back to the road, we drove for a while and then ended up at the boat ramp at the beach. 

The kids were able to get out of the car and skip some rocks into the river.  Ian is getting pretty good at it!  He got a couple to skip 10 to 15 times and then skid across the water a ways before sinking.

    Eli and Micah had a lot of fun just throwing whatever they picked up into the river.  Eli even went fishing...for marshmallows.  Didn't manage to catch anything though.  Maybe next time buddy! 

On the way back home, we managed to spot a few deer.  It was pretty exciting!
