We have some amazing friends here in Green River. It wasn't enough that they took care of our family the almost two months I was sick and in the hospital, but they decided to throw our family a Benefit Dinner. Again we were amazed at the generousity of people in our little community. All the donations from the businesses and people here in town and also Price and Emery Co. were humbling to those putting on the dinner and to our family as well. We knew we were loved, but not that loved! I wish that I had thought to take more pictures of the benefit. I had taken the camera with us with good intentions to take lots and lots of pictures, but we had so many well wishers around us all the time, that the camera was an afterthought when the benefit was almost over. This is the sign that was hung up at the park. They also had signs in several businesses around town reminding people to come support.
I was amazed and kind of embarrassed at all those who came. Like I said, I knew I was loved, but it was amazing to see just how many people were concerned about me and our family. I'm not one who likes to be the center of attention, so this was way out of my comfort zone. But, I knew I needed to tell the people of our communtity thank you, although I can never repay the service that was given to me. We had many, many people come and a few surprises as well. Tanie Worthen one of the other 6th grade teachers in the district, came to support with her son, and one other being our friends, Ricky and Sharree Jensen. They are friends we met at college before we were all married, lived by them when we lived in Pleasant Grove, and they have since moved to Arizona. It was so fun to see them and visit for a couple of hours. They won Jo Baxter's painting that was auctioned and gave it to us. That was pretty awesome. They are amazing friends!
Those friends in charge went above and beyond just doing a benefit dinner. They also had a bake sale, a little store, and a silent auction--all of the items were donated. They had carnival games for the kids to play, and cotton candy and snow cones. They even had a DJ to provide music (Our friends the Pettit's have a sound system). There seemed to be something for everyone. Amazing, huh?
I heard there were tears of joy as all the money was being counted. Our friends were able to raise double what they were hoping to make. That was humbling to hear. We sure appreciate all the time and effort that went into putting on this event. We will never be able to say thank you enough. We love you! :)
This post brought the lump into my throat as I remembered that whole thing. It was amazing thing to be a part of. And the storm that held it's breath until we were all about to leave...so COOL!!!!! We love YOU!!!!! :)
ReplyDeleteIt was a wonderful night for a deserving family. You are so loved! Don't know what I'd do without your friendship. :-) I know my life is richer for knowing you and your family.
