Thankful Pie

Heather Parsons is Eli's preschool teacher.  She does such an amazing job with them and always has the cutest activities for them to do. On November 19th, she sent home a Thankful Pie that Eli had to put together.  He had to come up with things he was thankful for to put in his pie for Thursday's preschool.  The parents were invited for their presentations of the Thankful Pie show and tell on November 21st.  All the kids did a fabulous job. :) It was fun to watch what each of them were thankful for. Eli put a blanket in his pie, a picture of our family, a toy car, one of his tools, a green crayon, he wrote "preschool" on a piece of paper, and a picture of Jesus.

I am so glad we decided to put Eli in Heather's preschool this year! :) He sure does love it!

Eli's First Day of Preschool

My friend Heather decided to teach preschool this year.  I was so excited when she invited Eli to attend!  I knew she'd do a great job with the kids.  The day before preschool actually started (Sept. 23), Heather had a time for Eli to come so he would know where to hang his backpack and see where preschool would take place, and also do a little assessment so that Heather knew where Eli was in terms of learning.
Heather made a little chair cubby out of capri sun boxes for each of the kids that would hold their pencils, scissors, and workbooks.  She is so creative! :)  She also turned one wall in her dining room into the preschool wall.  She has hooks for backpacks, spaces for their names, weather, calendar, job chart, sight words, alphabet, colors, among other things. Eli was pretty excited!
This is Eli's first day of preschool.  I almost forgot to take his picture!  Heather lives kitty corner from us just down the Alley behind our houses, so we are able to walk--it's great!

I could hardly get him to stand still long enough for a picture--he was just so excited!

The Letter E

On March 20th and 22nd, Micah learned about the letter "E" at preschool.  He brought home his decorated egg in the nest he made. This stayed in the house long enough to take these pictures and show Dad.  I love the pictures he drew on his egg. :)

He can write his name.
The self portraits were pretty cute.  I love the 100s of legs (so he could run so fast!)
His egg was pretty beat up.  I heard they had races with their noses.  Sounds like they had fun.  It's fun to hear what activities the other moms come up with to teach our kids.  Glad I don't have to do everything myself! So glad you are enjoying preschool! Love you buddy!

Little Drummer Kids

I was in charge of preschool one of the weeks in December.  I picked the letter "D" to work on with our kids.  The first day we did "deer" and made cute little reindeer with their hand and footprints.  I also knew what I wanted to do for the second day of the week and asked the kids what their favorite color was.  The next day we did drums.  I had their drums ready to go.  We decorated their names which I had written on their favorite color of paper, and which later became their cover for their drums.  We watched the little drummer boy movie, and then made their drums.  I already had their drumsticks made--I painted dowels and put rubber stoppers on the ends of them.  Once the drums were made, we listened to the little drummer boy song and played our drums to the rum-pa-pum pums.  We also played them to the alphabet song, days of the week song (to the tune of the Adams Family), we counted as we played them, and the list goes on.  The kids absolutely loved it!  We didn't have time for playtime, and  almost ran out of time to color our picture and have a snack! Lol

We have five kids in preschool, six, when it's my week and Eli joins in, and they all loved this!  I hope I didn't drive all the parents too crazy when they brought their drums home.  I guess they can take comfort in the fact that I had two drums at my house! :)

Zander's Graduation

In all the mayhem that happened in May, looking back I realized that I never posted about Zander's preschool graduation. He graduated on May 6th from Head Start. He learned a lot from his teacher, Mrs. Fabert, and is super excited he gets to start Kindergarten in the fall. Congratulations little buddy! :)
