Potty Princess

Wow! This little girl rocked her potty chart!  It took a little convincing for her to decide she wanted to start going on the potty, but once she did, she was a ninja.  She had a couple of accidents the first day, but that was it!  She stayed dry at night and was even able to wear her underwear to bed after 4 or 5 days.  The best part about this???  After 13+ years, we are officially out of diapers! Wahoo!!! January 20, 2013

Two dry nights

Micah has kept his underwear dry for two nights in a row now! :) No accidents during the day either, not even at church this week (probally helped that I was subbing in the nursery), so all is going well there! Yippee hooray for us! I think I can safely say Micah has kicked his diaper habit, and I am one VERY happy Mom! :)

Can it be true?

Well, I think Micah has this potty training thing figured out. We've had no accidents the last 3 days OR nights! It would have been four days, but I didn't know he'd fallen asleep while I made dinner and he had an accident then, so that doesn't really count, right? He's been waking up in the morning with a dry diaper and asking to go potty and then be put in underwear. He's earned 5 or 6 puzzles and does all of them several times a day. Night 2 of putting the diaper on for bed, and he was asking if he could wear underwear. (Big step from a few nights before that!) He started telling me 3 days ago when he needed to go, and I don't have to ask him or remind him very often. He no longer asks for stickers to be put on his chart before leaving the bathroom, and often one of the kids or myself asks him if he wants one, to which he replys, "oh yeah!"
Last night as I was putting his diaper on for bed, the tab ripped off of one side. Of course it was our "last diaper", and I remembered that the stool in the other room had some size 4 diapers in it, so the day was saved. (nevermind the brand new box of size fours in the closet-lol) Micah made the comment that he hoped the tab on that diaper would break too. I asked why, and he said, "So I can wear my underwear to bed." :)
So, yea for us!! No longer do we have two in diapers! Whoo-hoo!! :) I'm sure that $40.00 a month in diapers for Micah will go to a good cause! (My grocery fund!)
Now comes the brave part and sticking up to my end of the deal....letting him wear underwear to bed for the first time tonight! Wish us luck! :)

Day 2: Not so good...

So today was a trial with Micah. He wet his pants as we were on the way out the door to church, so I had to bring him back in and change him, which made us late. After Sacrament meeting, I took him to the bathroom before he went to nursery and he went. I went back in between Sunday School and Relief Society and took him potty again, and he went. At 12:43, right before I was leaving Relief Society to go help Morgan with her talk in Primary, Micah's teacher brought him to me and said he'd had an accident. Not just wet, but pooey! Ewww, Gross!!! Never dealt with that one before. Yuck! It did not go over well with my stomach. :( Luckily I had an extra pair of pants and underwear in the diaperbag, so we changed him, took him back to class, and hurried to Primary to help Morgan. I was almost late for that. She was getting kind of worried. Her face brightened immediately when she saw me. :) Then, right after church Micah had more wet pants. We changed him again. He did alright this afternoon, but this evening was wet again. John was so frustrated he put him in a diaper. (It was almost bedtime anyway.)
We will perservere! Hopefully tomorrow gets better...Definantly not a "Meep" day. :(

Potty Training: Day 1

Micah ran out of his diapers on Friday, so Saturday morning we tried potty training. Micah was resigned to the fact, and was almost excited to pick out big boy underwear. He did an excellent job all day long, and earned 2 puzzles! He only had 1 accident at 7:30pm--I think he was distracted watching Zander play the computer. He even wore his big boy pants to the
Veteran's luncheon. I didn't have to take him every 20 min., he just told me when he needed to go, and if it had been a while, I'd ask him. We told him he had to wear a diaper at night so he didn't wet the bed. He was actually very opposed to wearing a diaper, which surprised me. He was going to be a big boy now, and wanted to wear his underpants to bed. We made a deal that if he could keep his diaper dry for 3 nights in a row, he could try underwear for bed. Could it really have been this easy? Hiding the diapers was all it took?? It certainly looks that way at this point. I'm so excited I can't hardly stand it!! (**Meep!**--that's for you, Nichole!) We're going to try big boy pants today as we go to church--wish us luck! :)

Micah once again...

  Today I had a conversation with Micah about him not wanting to potty in the toilet. (I'm getting very frustrated with him as he is 3, knows how, can do it if he wants to, but refuses.  Two in diapers is expensive!!)  Anyways, he is really liking puzzles right now, and can do the 24 or 25 piece ones all by himself.  Last week at the dollar store we hit the puzzle gold mine!  I found 19 different puzzles he can do.  I decided these would be the new "potty prizes" he could earn.  (We've tried everything from toys to treats with no success.)  He was so excited to see all the different kinds: Toy Story, Cars, Winnie the Pooh, Spiderman, etc.  I thought it would motivate him....WRONG!  He still doesn't really care.  He talks about earning them and has gotten two stickers in the row towards earning one, but it's still not enough to push him over this rut.  I was reading my friend Heather's blog about how easy it was to train her 2 year old daughter and how she hid the diapers in the closet so they wouldn't be a crutch.  I started thinking that maybe that was what Micah was doing.  Diapers are just easier.  Back to my conversation with him now that you have all the background info. :)  I was getting him dressed after his shower--he actually pottied in the toilet before showering--and was talking about earning enough stickers to fill a row and asked him if he would start being a big boy and go in the toilet.  He said, "yes", and I said, "really?"  He said, "Nah, I'll just use my diapers."  I kept my cool and asked him, "What if your diapers were all gone?  Then what would you do?"  He just shrugged his shoulders.  I told him, "You'll have to wear big boy pants." "No!"  "Then what are you going to do if all your diapers are gone?  You aren't going to go on my couch or on the carpet. So what are you going to do?"  He scrunched up his face (man, I wish I had a picture of that face!) and said through clenched teeth, "I'll have to go in the potty!"  It was the funniest thing! I'm still laughing over that face he made!  I'm seriously thinking we'll give this new tactic a try. 
  Tonight as we were getting kids in their PJs, I asked Eli to get me a diaper.  He brought me one of Micah's.  I said, "Look Micah, you still have one diaper left!" To which he exclaimed with a punched fist in the air, "YES!" Eli kept bringing me diapers, some were his, some were Micah's.  I think by the end there were 10 of Micah's diapers in my lap.  Every few I'd give Micah an update on how many he had in the diaper box to which he'd give a "woo-hoo! or a "yeah!!"  That was pretty funny too.  I told Micah that he only had 10 diapers left and asked what he was going to do when they were gone to which he answered kind of deflated, "Go in the potty."  I think this actually might just work!  Heather, thanks for putting the idea in my head--every child is different, you'd think after doing this three times already I'd have it down--not so my friends! :) Hopefully one more will be checked off soon!

This is taking forever!

Blogging today is taking forever! I've been trying to get the last 3 posts done for over an hour! lol Micah is beginning to potty train. We bought him pull-ups yesterday when we were out of town, and he has to keep the wheels on them dry. That seems to be doing the trick. Cross your fingers! He's only had one accident, and told me he had to go when he realized what was happening, and finished in the toilet, so yeah! Hopefully we'll only have one child in diapers before too long!

Yesterday I took John to the hospital to have a scope done on his throat. He's been choking when he eats for about 2 years and I finally convinced him he needed to go get it checked out. He had a physical the end of December, our doctor sent John to another doctor who does scopes, so we had that appointment about a week and a half later. The scope was scheduled for 3 weeks after the consult appointment. We found out that his throat (esophagus and vocal chords) looked just fine. Going into his stomach was a little inflamed, his stomach was a little more inflamed, and leaving his stomach was the most inflamed. John also has a haetal hernia (not sure if that is spelled right). They took a couple of biopsies of the inflamed portions, so we have to go back in a couple weeks to find out why they are irritated. Aaaggghhh! (I'm tired of all the waiting!) We got some cool pics of all of it though. LOL I was mad that I forgot my camera! It was in Price with us, but in the diaper bag up the hill with Aunt Shlisa and Eli. (Thanks again for watching him!) I did get a couple of shots of John in the hospital bed with my phone, so if I can figure out how to get them off of there I'll post them later. John did well with the anesthesia. We weren't sure how that would go where he's never been in the hospital for anything before. It took him about 2 hours to completly come out of it so we could leave. I've been very worried about him and having this whole thing done. I'm feeling a little better that it doesn't look like cancer or anything like that. I'm not sure why he is choking where all the inflamation is in the lower part of his stomach/small intestine and not his throat, but hopefully we'll learn more at his next appointment...back to waiting!
