Melon Days 2013

Melon  Days has come again! This is the last year that I am going to be doing a bunch of wood sets.  I've decided that it just isn't what I want to spend all my time on anymore.  I still love doing them, but want to move on to other things.  I'm not even sure we'll do a booth again (especially after the record low sales we had this year-yikes!).  We'll have to wait and see. Anyways, I did several new wood sets for my booth, as well as new frames, card kits, and some fun Hide and Seek games for the kids. (My kids love to play the set I made for Micah's birthday last year.)  

This is what my booth looked like all set up.  We decided to move the pegboard to the side this year in hopes that the wind wouldn't blow the bottom of it out and knock over all the wood sets. It worked well!

Saturday morning we were all lined up on Main Street waiting for the parade to begin.  Coralie was here this year as well as Suzette.  The kids love being around their cousins!

Both my parents were invited to come, but my dad ended up having a Scout Training.  They decided not to come, but then my mom figured she'd be sitting at home by herself, so she ended up coming without Dad.  We had so much fun!  I'm so glad she came to spend time with me.

We have a new life flight helicopter at the Price hospital.  They service our clinic here in town.  They flew over the parade route at the beginning of the parade.  The kids loved it!

Grandma was heckling the parade announcer (one of our friends, Scott Robertson, who is a Utah fan) and he brought her a balloon hammer.  There was a BYU/Utah game that day.  If you can't tell, Grandma is one of BYU's biggest fans!

Yea! The parade is starting!

Ian was asked to carry one of the flags in the parade.  He got to carry the Utah flag.

One of John's voice students won the Melon Days Queen Pageant, Kelsey McFarlane.  She is a cute girl (and her Mom made her dress (the blue one)! She is amazing!).

John's nephew carried the sign for the Emery High Band. Go Jason!

The kids always enjoy collecting candy from the parade the most!  They always make a haul!

Melon Days 2012

 

Another Melon Days came and went!  I spent the weeks leading up to Melon Days getting my crafts finished for my booth. I really liked how all the wood sets turned out this year.  I didn't want to post too many pictures, so here is a sampling of my favorites.

Thursday night, September 13th, in addition to the town dinner at the park, they did a mini parade where kids could make a float, decorate a bike, etc.  Zander decided he wanted to participate.  He decorated his bike, and we made it just in time for the parade.

He said he had to have candy to throw from his bike.  That's the best part of any parade!

Zander earned himself a ribbon.  He was so proud of it!

Friday, September 14th was spent setting up my booth and selling my crafts.  I did pretty good this year.  I almost sold out of all my wood sets!  I made the mistake of holding some sets for a lady who needed to "run home and get her checkbook".  She never came back, and I probally would have sold the sets had I not held them.  Learned my lesson there.  No more of that! 

The kids were pretty independant this year.  Our booth was fairly close to the bounce houses, and so we didn't have to worry about them too much.  Lindey spent a lot of her time in the playpen and was a really good sport about it.  Eli stayed close as well.  He did venture out with the older kids a few times and got his fill of the bounce houses too.

  Ian had to be at the park at 6am on Saturday, September 15th for the scout breakfast.  He was not excited about that, but he did it. :) The parade starts at 10:00am.  John elected to stay at the booth and I went to the parade with the kiddos.  (Melinda was a huge help--thanks!)  Aunt Paula spoiled Lindey with a cute little tutu.  She loved it!

 Ian was asked by Officer Huntington to be on the NOVA (it used to be DARE) float.  When they came by our family, Ian loaded up his shirt and brought the kids a whole ton of candy!  After he finished the parade on the NOVA float, he walked back to the beginning of the parade route and hopped on the Ace Hardware float with Aunt Shish and Uncle Tom.  The kids got another load of candy when he went by again. lol  Thanks, buddy!

Betty Smith is our oldest resident. :)  She's a cute little lady.

Had to post this cool car for Jordan.  There were a bunch of them in the parade this year.  It was kind of fun!

We had a sucessful Melon Days with my booth and a lot of fun with cousins and friends, but I can't say I'm sad it's over.  Now to get on the ball and get busy doing next year's crafts!  I have so many ideas/things I want to do--where to start...

Melon Days 2011

This year for Melon Days my booth was lacking in the wood department.  I only got the 3 halloween sets finished, so the other 17 sets are still unfinished in my craft room.  I was able to get these cute little clipboards made up.  They are made from the laminate samples you can get at Home Depot or Lowe's.  They turned out pretty cute!

On Friday, my booth was relatively slow, so John said he would man it so I could take the little boys to the blow up slides.  I got some classic faces from both Micah and Eli.  It was so fun to watch them. :)

Saturday was kind of crazy.  We shut down our Bountiful Baskets site for the week because with both Heather and I doing booths we didn't want to deal with it.  Unfortunately before the ladies in charge of Bountiful Baskets realized that our site needed to be shut down for the week, we had one person place an order.  Instead of refunding his money, they decided to send his basket anyway.  It was my week to be in charge, so it fell on my shoulders to make all the arrangements.  It was kind of a mess because the deisel got there right as the parade was starting and couldn't get to our regular site (neither could I) so we met out at a truck stop.  John's dad had to take me in the Ranger so we could make it through all the road blocks--thanks Dad!  We made it out to the truck and by the time we made it back to my booth, the parade was ending.  Thanks to Ms. Durrant who selflessly took our children to the parade for us.  (John was helping our friend on his float with the candy cannon.)  Melinda took some great pictures for me!

One thing our town is famous for is the world's largest watermelon slice.  It got a touch up of paint this year and was looking great!

My booth did all right considering we got rained out Friday night around 5pm, and consequently there were less people on the soggy park Saturday. Add to that the lack of product I had in my booth. But, all in all it was a fun weekend.  Happy Melon Days!
